David Leen’s Quiztastic Birthday!
As David was going to be on holiday when his actual birthday came around, we decided to celebrate early. It was a glorious 4th of July morning and we had some fantastic quizzes set up for Mr Leen’s entertainment!
First of all we had the specially created quiz from Ella Tugwell which was all about David Leen. Ben Wilson and Simon Convery were called up as contestants to see who knew the most about their boss. It was pretty obvious Simon had all the dirt on David and knew most of the answers, coming away with the brownie points by winning 8 points to 6!
Then came the Baby Photo quiz. Nearly all staff had sent Jennifer a picture of themselves when they were a baby / toddler and we had to name the infant! We had been working on this for a few days and were looking forward with anticipation for the results. Some were very obvious (including David’s black and white baby photo, age of the picture gave us a clue that it might be his as it was so old! Joking!) and others were a little more tricky to figure out. We went through the pictures with a lot of laughs and ended the quiz with David’s card and gift.
We had all pooled together for David’s presents including two tickets to see the British Open on Sunday 17 July, which he seemed very pleased with. Also wrapped was an ‘I love Patagonia’ t-shirt which was a running joke from our Barcelona trip back in March (see our Barcelona blog dated 10 March). , We also gave him a t-shirt with his baby picture from the quiz printed onto it, with all the staff names listed on the back. Although it was blisteringly hot in the office on the day, David wore both throughout the day with commitment and some dignity (it was worn over his shirt!).
After the present giving we moved on to do one more quiz for David’s birthday –The Mr and Mrs Quiz. That morning, Mark had asked me three rather strange questions, giving nothing away or reasons why. It then dawned on me that as he announced the Mr and Mrs quiz, I was to be named David’s work wife! I dutifully took my seat next to my ‘new husband’ and we began.
After the rules of the game were explained, I was summarily dismissed and quickly left the room for David to give his answers. From the kitchen I could hear roaring laughter at the answers he was giving and it is fair to say I was feeling fairly anxious. I was called back into the room to what turned out to be the most incompatible couples quiz ever. David didn’t manage to answer any of my questions correctly and I did equally as bad! We were clearly never destined to be together as a couple, however we do work very well together so that’s something!
Later in the day Ella Tugwell and I decided to go to Cocoa, one of the most delicious cake shops in Brighton (possibly in the South East) for some birthday treats for David and the gang. With three beautiful Parisian cakes in tow and some pistachio macaroons (David’s favourites!) we headed back to the office to sing Happy Birthday to David and stuff our faces. Mark had also organised for some staff members to tell their favourite David stories, there were some hilarious tales and we all enjoyed sharing the memories.
So a massive Happy Birthday to our trusty old/young Director David Leen!
